How the bill is put together

The amount on an invoice is a list, not a single package price. The notarial act is charged at the Texas maximum. An acknowledgment is $10 for the first signature and $1 for each additional signature. An oath, a jurat, or another act that is not given its own amount is $10. A copy of a record in my office is $1 a page. Those are the fees in Government Code § 406.024. I do not add a fee on top of them for the act itself.

Travel is not part of the act. Mileage is calculated as a round trip from 3517 78th Drive in Lubbock. The first 10 miles are $10. Each mile after that is $1. A hospital or a nursing home is $25. A jail or a detention center is $50. Waiting is $10 for the first 15 minutes and $10 for each additional 15-minute period. Printing or scanning is $1 a page. A pickup or drop-off at FedEx or UPS is $30, plus what the carrier charges.

The time of day is its own line. Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., has no extra charge. Monday through Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., is $25. Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., are $25 for the day. I do not take appointments outside those hours. A federal holiday is not an extra charge. A request for service with less than two hours' notice is $50 when I accept it. Inclement weather or hazardous roads are $100, and only when that charge applies to a trip.

A remote session has no travel line. Each online act is the fee in Government Code § 406.024 plus a $25 online notarization fee. The evening or weekend amount still applies if the session is in that window.

The quote builder uses these same rates. The total is a high-end estimate. It is not the bill, and it does not reserve the appointment. After your first completed appointment, later work is 15 percent off. That discount is not in the quote.

There is no deposit. Payment is due when you receive the invoice. I release the notarized documents only after that payment is received.

Travel, time of day, location, waiting, and printing appear on the invoice only when a notarial act is performed. If I do not perform the act, those lines are not billed. The fee schedule on this website is the full list.

This note describes how I work. It is not legal advice.
