A power of attorney, notarized near you

A search for a power of attorney notary near you, in Lubbock, ends at a visit. I come to the signer. The starting point is 3517 78th Drive, and the trip stays within 60 miles of that address. The first 10 round-trip miles are $10. Each mile after that is $1.

A power of attorney is priced as an acknowledgment. The notarial act, under Government Code § 406.024, is $10 for the first signature and $1 for each additional signature on that document. If the appointment is in the evening or on a weekend, the posted time-of-day amount is a separate line. None of those lines is billed if the act is not performed.

The person granting the power must appear before me, with a current government photo ID and the complete document. Government Code § 406.0091 requires that appearance. The agent does not have to be in the room unless the agent is also signing a signature I notarize. I compare the identification to the person in front of me. I do not put the identification number in the journal. Government Code § 406.014 and 1 Texas Administrative Code § 87.50 prohibit an identification number and a fingerprint.

If the signer is in a hospital or a nursing home, I come to the room. That location fee is $25. If the signer is in a jail or a detention center, I come there. That location fee is $50. Both are separate from the notarial act and the travel. Say so when you book, because those buildings take time to enter.

I do not draft the power of attorney, choose between a medical directive and a financial power, or tell you what the document will do. If the signer is unwilling, or does not appear to know that a document is being signed, I cannot perform the act. There is then no charge.

A remote session is possible only when the act may be done online and the person or institution that will rely on the power will accept a Texas online certificate. A bank, a hospital, or a title company makes that decision. Ask them before we meet on video. If they want ink on the paper, I come to you, within the 60 miles.

I am not an attorney licensed to practice law in Texas and may not give legal advice or accept fees for legal advice.
